Who is this Bodhi Chick Anyway?

Hi Guys!

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a little bit better.

I go by Bodhi here on the World Wide Web.
I am married to Disco Guy and I am Mom to my
21 year-old daughter, Shelby, and my 12 year-old son, Michael.

I also have 22 year-old twin stepsons
that we just don't get to see enough of these days.
Between college, work, and girls
I don't even think we register on the scale anymore :-(

We live in a small town in northern San Luis Obispo County in California.
I moved here with my family when I was in the sixth grade
and it has just never quite felt like home.
I have always missed the mountains and canyons and streams of my youth.
I guess I am still searching for my "home."

I enjoy gardening and grow both ornamentals and edibles.
It has been on my heart for a while now to learn to grow as much of my family's food as I can--so that we can be as sustainable as we can.

This is not always easy as the rental property we live on doesn't have a whole lot of space that I can devote to food growing.

I do what I can, though, and in the meantime I dream of some day having my own wee little farm somewhere where I can fashion my farming practices after one of my heroes, Joel Salatin

I try to garden and cook as organically as possible for my family.

Does that mean that we never hit the drive thru at our local fast food joint?  Unfortunately, no, but we do limit those trips to a couple of times a month.

I think the FDA is a joke and I don't trust any of the big corporations that stock the shelves of our grocery stores.
I cringe every time I hear the name Monsanto.

We try to stay away from processed foods as much as possible and we make weekly trips to our local farmer's market for fresh, organic, locally grown fruits and vegetables.

We have to learn to choose REAL nutritious food. And the only way to get through to these huge corporations is with our check books.

I also want to learn more about herbs and their
healing properties so that I can be better educated to lend
a helping hand to my family when one of them is in need.
I have kicked around the idea of becoming an herbalist for years now and I think it is about time that I start getting serious about this and buckle down.
Procrastinator?  Who, me?  You betcha!

And last, but not least, I follow a nature-based religion--
although I don't even think of my beliefs as a religion.
I honor the natural world--the earth, the land, the trees, the wind, the rain, the sun and moon, and I believe that all of life is sacred.

I endeavor to work with nature instead of thinking that I have the right to "subdue" her.

I also honor your right to follow whatever path speaks to your soul.

I believe that there are many paths that all lead to the same wondrous place.

In the end, we are all ONE.
